The news released by Boeing management has shaken employees. According to management, the company is forced to cut costs and the only way they see to do this is to reduce the number of employees. Therefore, they plan to lay off 211 employees from their company. Firing of a large number of employees has affected the overall reputation of the company. According to an employee survey, the job satisfaction level of the employees has been decreased. They do not have any type of job security as they can be fired any time, no matter in which department they are working.
According to the survey, most of the dismissed employees of the company were IT workers and all of these dismissals were involuntary. Kent Cato is the spokesperson of Boeing Company. According to him, they not only dismissed the IT workers, but they also have chosen workers from their defense corporate sector. He further stated that most of the workers dismissed were from the Washington state rather than Texas.
Boeing has stated that the company intends to lay off 4,000 employees from the commercial airplane division mostly in Washington State by the middle of 2016 and up to 8,000 by the end of the year. This news has fostered speculation that Boeing may concentrate on its defense, space, and security divisions (BDS) instead of commercial planes in the future. It is also speculated that the move to concentrate on BDS may be due to Boeing anticipating greater military involvement in world affairs, not only involving the Middle East but increasing conflicts with Russia and China.
