It is at number two in terms of market capitalization by a publicly traded company and is at number six in the Forbes list of global 2000 list in 2014 which is a commendable feat to achieve.
In 2007, it was reported that its rates of production will last more than fourteen years. It owns thirty-seven oil refineries in twenty-one countries and its reserves amounts to 25.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent. With its combined daily refined capacity of 6.3 million barrels, the company has emerged as the largest refiner in the world, a title which was previously owned by its predecessor, Standard Oil since its incorporation in 1870. With a daily production of an amazing number of 3.921 million barrels of oil equivalent, the company is the largest in the world’s super majors. The company has courted numerous criticisms like the criticism on its lack of speed during the cleanup efforts after the disastrous Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989 in Alaska. But Exxon has overcome all the hurdles to become one of the top five companies.
